Terms of Service

This page is maintained by BatesTool to explain how you may use the service, what we do and do not guarantee, and your responsibilities.

Last updated: July 10, 2026

Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using BatesTool, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. We may update these terms from time to time, and continued use after changes means you accept the revised terms.

What BatesTool provides

BatesTool is a browser-based utility for adding Bates numbers, exhibit stamps, and production indexes to PDF documents. The current version runs entirely in your browser and does not require an account. Future versions may add accounts, team features, or paid plans, and those features will be governed by these terms plus any additional terms presented at sign-up.

Acceptable use

You may use BatesTool only for lawful purposes and in compliance with these terms. You agree not to:

  • Upload, process, or distribute malware, viruses, or harmful content.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract the source code of BatesTool.
  • Use BatesTool to infringe intellectual property rights, violate confidentiality obligations, or breach court orders.
  • Interfere with the security, availability, or performance of the service.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for the documents you process, the accuracy of the stamps and indexes you produce, and compliance with any legal or professional obligations that apply to you. Because processing happens on your device, you are also responsible for securing your device, network, and downloaded files.

Intellectual property

BatesTool owns the software, design, branding, and content of the service, except for the documents you upload and the output you generate. You retain ownership of your PDFs and stamped output. We do not claim any license to your documents beyond what is necessary to perform the stamping operation in your browser.

Disclaimers

BatesTool is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for any particular legal purpose. You must review your stamped PDFs and production indexes before using them in court or delivering them to another party.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, BatesTool and its operators will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of or inability to use the service, including but not limited to errors in numbering, lost documents, or reliance on the tool for legal filings.

Changes and termination

We may change, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time. We may also terminate or restrict your access if you violate these terms. Because the current tool is client-side and anonymous, we do not have the ability to disable individual users, but we reserve the right to block abusive traffic or take legal action as appropriate.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of BatesTool will be resolved in the courts located in Delaware.
